INTERSECTION 2016

In 2016 Thinx put on a show during New York Fashion Week. Titled INTERSECTION, the performance explored the topics of intersectional feminism and stood against underwear fashion shows like Victoria’s Secret.

To equalized the the ones who are viewing and the ones being viewed, guests and models alike wore white clothes and sat on the same kind of pedestals in the dark. Only when the spotlight shone on the models, they stood up on the pedestals to perform stories based on their identity and their experience with periods. They wore specifically clothes that, instead of objectifying their bodies, were deconstructed to show the underwear, and reconstructed to dignify their forms.

After the show, guests were encouraged to take away the foldable pedestal they sat on. 95% ended up re-using them as home/office furnitures. This plan helped to reduce waste generated by the fashion industry during a time like fashion week.
