Period Sex & The City

When I led the product design of Thinx’s Period Sex Blanket, I wanted to create something that was sexy, sensual and futuristic - a beautiful object on display, but also an extremely personal excitement hidden in plain sight. The same principle was extended to the experience that launched the product that summer, on Mercer Street in SOHO New York.

When people entered the bright and fluid installation space titled “Come As You Are”, they did not know they would be introduced to something that was very much in the shade of our cultural discussion - period sex. This topic was an epic combination of of two taboos in a patriarchal society, female sexual pleasure and menstruation at the same time.

To get the conversation started, guests enjoyed a self-led exploration, an open oyster bar, some liquid visual DJ and a dance performance, before they entered a heated panel discussion led by journalists, sex experts, and doctors.
